Hobart Alderman Say No to Logo Savagery

It has been enriching to witness such an outburst of emotion over the new logo of the City of Hobart, but disappointing at the same time, because some people have taken their comments too far. Due to this reason, the undersigned aldermen have raised their voice to express complete support for the logo maker and the procedure undertaken by the committee to suggest it for their organization. This group of alderman has united to protect the selection of the new City of Hobart logo.

Hobart Alderman Say No to Logo Savagery

As declared by seven members of the council, which also includes Lord Mayor Sue Hickey – they welcome the zealous outpouring of sentiment but few comments have exceeded the limits.

The logo, revealed few days earlier, sparked strong online discussions and comments with some savaging it. As per the statement of the aldermen, they would give complete support to the process embarked on by the council to recommend it to their organization and also offer full support to the logo designer.

Chosen for its competitive cost and track record, Great Scott Design, presented a sequence of designs. Aldermen Jeff Briscoe, Philip Cocker, Anna Reynolds, Helen Burnet, Suzy Cooper and Deputy Lord Mayor Ron Christie have also signed the statement. It elucidates the process behind the new symbol. The alderman said that the proposal was taken to open council so they missed one chance to communicate the underlying principle. The statement also said that the council has apologized for that.

It states that they completely support their council’s work and Great Scott Design’s creativity. All of these have reflected uniqueness, great passion, creativity and setting off a debate on Hobart’s identity, which will help create this city a nice place. It also said that some persons thought the logo cost is $200,000. But $16,000 was the quote. The estimated cost for rolling it out is $200,000 but it would be segmented as assets were changed over time.

The council has given different opinions and has been split up over the logo.

Alderman Marti Zucco has initiated a movement to reverse the option and consider holding on to the present logo. This had been considered earlier.

Also on the agenda, it is mentioned the possible entry fee for the annual summertime Taste Festival. Considerations and discussions will be held behind the closed doors.

We came across many such logo criticism in the past and are going to come across many in the future. A professional logo designer creates a logo with all his/ her expertise and best understanding of the requirement. But, at times it fails to collect appreciation from all the quarters.

It is very easy to criticize but hard to create something uniquely fresh. People of Hobart should get a life than savaging a logo.
