Who designed it?

Korissa Gozdziak, an 8th grade student have grown up from her play- dough molding games to colored pencil sketches. And suddenly, she was elevated to the podium of fame in Lancaster because her design was selected for the school district’s new logo. She was crowned as the designer of new student-approved mascot for Lancaster Central School District – The Lancaster Legends.

Korissa expressed her happy feelings after she beats other contestant as the district was switching mascots after the months of controversy. She thinks that it feels awesome as the process involved the hard work of so many people. According to her, it is a cool legacy to leave as the ‘Legends’.

The School Board has planned to vote for the logo officially in the upcoming week. The district already hurried to get the copyright protection for the new mascot on the same day when the vote results were declared. The very next day, two new Twitter account attached to the Legends were started.

How the idea striked her mind?

When the new logo design contest for students was first declared this spring, in due course, drawing above 100 entries, miss Gozdziak made her mind to submit 1. The 14- year old with round brown eyes and long brown hair, worked her fingers to the bone and got off on the right foot.

At the beginning, she had no idea what she is going to come up with. She messaged her friend Anna and told her that the school was switching its mascot name and she asked her friend to help her regarding the same. Not only one advice, but Korissa also spoke to many school friends before deciding on Legends. She said that she asked for opinions about Legends from everyone, and found that most of the people thought that Legends had a good ring to it.

What does the design look like?

The Legends theme has a knight’s suit of armor and rapier. The color combination has been kept same as that of the School’s official color shades – Red, Black and hint of Gray. The font color is red, shadowed by gray. The logo also accompanies one motivating statement which says that the district is “Legendary” and nestles great teachers as well as opportunities that outline students to turn into legends in their own right. Surprisingly, her design came out to be the top pick after getting highest votes by 1,106 students.

Students, winning such logo design contests, are numerous. For example, Graphic Design student, Gemma Riley, won a logo design competition for the Deddington Festival. The winner of 2015 Hometown Festival cover page competition was Brenna Wise, a student of Robert Taft Middle School. Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge asked for assistance from their arts students of Brawley Union High School, in designing their new logo. It can be concluded that the judges and the decision makers seem to be very impressed with the quality of work that students show in designing logos.
