Campaign Logos of Presidents and their implications

The commencement of presidential campaigns brings with them the invention and introduction of new campaign logos, bumper sticks, the calling card of a candidate for yard signs and loads of social media. Candidates are busy making the announcements and seek to win the minds and hearts of Americans with their actions, words and logos.

Sometimes, logos are closely linked with the brand and identity of the candidate. But every logo is not accepted and well-received by the people. Already, branding experts and social media critics have started picking over the 2016 field. Here is a bunch of campaign logos designed for Presidents that are fetching mixed reviews from every corner.

Logos of US Presidents

Barack Obama

Give a thumbs up or thumbs down, the Obama election campaign for 2008 changed the landscape of logos forever, for the presidential nominee. Before 2008, any old nationalistic fusion of flags, stereotyped star, in the usual color shades of white, red and blue were seen as symbols.

President Barack Obama is the initiator of the contemporary logo design, which he used in the campaign of 2008. The logo shows a sunrise, inside the letter “O” that was often seen next to”Obama” or as “O” in “Hope”. While campaigning, President Obama was often seen wearing the logo as a lapel pin, in place of an American flag.

Hillary Clinton

As Hillary Clinton started off her campaign recently, her new symbol for the campaign faced criticism on several grounds. According to some it symbolizes a traffic sign, most possibly the road sign for a hospital or something. Others like Emily Flake, the New Yorker cartoonist, pointed that the big red arrow mark pointing right is confusing .

On the other hand, few have also appreciated the design. New York based famous creative director, Johnny Lim, said that the logo designer has designed this logo for its radical simplicity. The mark has a uniqueness which will never be lost in the crowd. It is a mark which is bold and truly represent the candidate.

Jeb Bush

Former Florida governor, Jeb Bush, officially announced his campaign in Miami. Observers who were keeping a track of Jeb’s career noted that this 2016 logo is a of course a modern version than his earlier marks, since 1994.

The last name from the logo was a smart choice as per some people. The design overall is simple, strong and the blue and red color combo soothes eyes. To give a conservative and unique Republican look, the conventional serif font and red color have been used. Jeb may be looking to prop up his conservative identification. However, the exclamation mark is a bit forcefully placed.

Marco Rubio

Strange and little funny, he is one of the tough competitor who has pretty good chances to win, but that is not because of his logo. Let’s talk about the good things first. The typeface selection is smart indeed. It is a bold sans serif, little geometric and in lowercase. He says – “I am the leader of tomorrow”. But special factors in the logo are not much present. They took the map of the United States of America, which is a vast area. They shrunk it very small to fit into the size and colored it red. Now that apparently looks like a little red whale!

Ted Cruz

Well- done effort! The mark is a clear ‘yes’ to tradition and conservative audiences. Design –wise the logo scores high to attract audience. But then, the star looks awkward and is much like a crippling star whose limbs are missing. Other’s said that this symbol looks like the news channel and newspaper Al Jazeera, and the flame is similar to the Tinder dating site.

With numerous presidential expectants already announcing their candidacy, it seems the only way to distinguish and differentiate one campaign from another, meaningfully, is by the logos for campaigns.
